Mimosa Strain

Requirements for Growth

The Mimosa Strain is a little easier to grow than most other marijuana cultivars. Like all “Purple” strains, the Mimosa Strain tends to stay short and squat with a denser and more compact bud structure, making it well suited for indoor gardens but easily adaptable for outdoor gardens in cooler climates.

Like all Purple strains, the Mimosa Strain’s lineage can be traced back to the mountains of Afghanistan, so it stands to reason that the Mimosa Strain grows well in cooler mountainous or high-desert climates (i.e. Northern Europe, Northern California, Oregon, Arizona, & British Colombia; Canada) that are both sunny and dry.

Therefore, if you do plan to grow the Mimosa Strain indoors, make sure to cycle the air inside your grow space every 5 minutes to prevent excessive humidity from accumulating in your grow space.

You should also always keep your lights about 24 inches from the top of your canopy.

The Mimosa Strain is a particularly fast plant to grow and tends to be a heavy resin producer as well. It can handle high levels of nutrients better than most other strains and the Mimosa Strain still performs well in warm environments. The reason behind its resilience is that the Mimosa Strain is also known for producing large waxy leaves that retain water and give the plant added resistance to molds & diseases.

The Mimosa Strain responds well to pruning and other low-stress training (LST) techniques like topping, SCROG & SOG. Each of these techniques has been shown to significantly increase final yields.

Due to its shorter flowering time, we recommend giving the Mimosa Strain a longer veg so that the plant is robust enough to support the weight of the flowers.

The Mimosa Strain is known for producing particularly dense buds so make sure that there is enough light penetration to maximize photosynthesis.

The Mimosa Strain performs better in larger containers. However, we still recommend starting the Mimosa Strain in small containers and transplanting them into larger containers after about a month.

This extra step will help strengthen the roots and ultimately increase the overall yield at harvest.

Indoor growers should try to maintain a temperature of around 72 – 76 degrees Fahrenheit inside their grow space and keep the air circulating.

Indoor growers can maximize the purple color by allowing their grow space to cool off by at least 10 degrees Fahrenheit during the dark cycle.

You can increase your yield, and the overall health of your plant, by allowing the substrate to almost dry out in between waterings. This measure will help encourage root growth and lead to a more vigorous final yield.

Always make sure to calibrate your pH meter properly, and always adjust the pH of your water so that the run-off water measures around 6.0.

Make sure to also allow adequate time for flushing to remove any residual mineral salts that may have accumulated during the long flowering period. Flushing also helps remove chlorophyl which further enhances the purple hue of the finished flowers.

We recommend that soil growers flush the Mimosa Strain for 10 to 14 days prior to harvest and that hydroponic growers flush the Mimosa Strain for 7 to 10 days prior to harvest.

In general, longer flushes tend to produce better flavors and aromas without decreasing yield.

Lastly, be patient. The Mimosa Strain is a VERY resinous plant when the buds have the time to fully develop so make sure to monitor the trichomes closely under a 100x microscope and give them time to mature and start to turn amber before harvesting.

Be prepared for a big harvest too. In fact, it may be a good idea to reach out to some trusted friends and enlist their help during the trimming process to help speed things along.

We recommend taking the time to cure your buds, preferably in glass jars. This step will enhance the Mimosa Strain’s natural flavor.

How to Start Seeds of

Mimosa Strain

You can start your seeds in damp paper towels, coffee filters, napkins, or seed starter plugs. Simply dampen the medium with distilled water, place the seeds on the medium, and store in a warm, dark place for 3-5 days.

Once your seeds have sprouted, be sure to transfer them into soil or some other type of substrate as soon as possible.

The Best Soil for Growing

Mimosa Strain

When it comes to starting young plants, we recommend Tupur Mix by Royal Gold.

Tupur Mix is a coco fiber-based soilless medium that contains a heavy amount of perlite; and nothing else.

In other words: It's the PERFECT growing medium for seeds, clones, and young plants.

Keep in mind that while mature plants LOVE stuff like seabird guano and earthworm castings, whereas younger plants prefer clean, well-draining soil; and a light nutrient regimen that gets progressively stronger as the plant grows.

That's why we love Tupur Mix - it allows for MAXIMUM control over your feeding regimen!

This substrate is designed to let you feed your plants as often as possible without overwatering or burning your plants.

These unique factors make Tupur Mix ideal for young plants in containers, automated watering systems, drip-to-drain, ebb-and-flow, deep water culture, and aquaponic gardens.

Tupur Mix strikes the perfect balance between drainage and moisture retention while still allowing for adequate aeration to prevent water logging.

How to Plant Clones of

Mimosa Strain

When repotting a plant, the substrate should always come out of the smaller container in one piece.

Another key to transplanting clones is to make sure that the substrate in the new container is saturated with water to allow you to pack the soil down around the plant once it's been transplanted.

Nutrient Deficiencies in

When to Top Your

Mimosa Strain

We recommend topping your plants when they're about 24 inches tall and before they begin flowering.

Growers who choose to employ low-stress training techniques (SCROG or SOG) may end up topping multiple times.

Topping a plant temporarily deprives it of growth horomones called auxins that are present in the tips of the shoots and regulate vertical growth. In the absence of these hormones, the plant begins to grow horizontally for a few days until the auxins recover.

This "horizontal growth" leads to the development of multiple meristems that can each eventually support a large flower.

That's why topping is a widely accepted practice that has been shown to dramatically improve yields.

Possible Side Effects of

Mimosa Strain

Marijuana consumption may trigger adverse effects in some people. Less experienced consumers are more likely to experience side effects, including but not limited to:

  • Dry Mouth

  • Dry or Red Eyes

  • Anxiety

  • Paranoia

  • Dizziness

  • Hunger

  • Increased Heart Rate

In general, these effects dissipate after a few minutes as your body metabolizes the THC.
