How to Make Cannabis-Infused Cooking Oil in 4 Easy Steps
Updated: Feb 28
Cannabis infused cooking oil is a great way to enjoy all the benefits of consuming cannabis while still maintaining a healthy diet.
You can use any type of oil for this recipe; although there is some evidence to suggest that saturated fats like coconut oil, can absorb cannabinoids slightly better then monounsaturated fats like olive oil, or canola oil.
Cannabinoids are fat-soluble and will dissolve in any lipid-based substance when subjected to moderate heat.
I've personally always used olive oil because of tendency toward cooking mostly savory dishes; as opposed to sweets.
Coconut oil is also becoming more popular among marijuana connoisseurs because of its high nutrient density and vegan-friendly qualities.
When it comes to a source of cannabis material, I highly recommend using kief or fine-grade hash as opposed to bud or leaf matter for two reasons... Firstly, I think the flavor of the final product is smoother and more food-friendly; and secondly because hash or kief will dissolve completely into the oil whereas plant matter will need to be strained out.
Ultimately, I think you should base your choice of oil and cannabis material on the flavors of the dish your cooking. Some of my favorite ways to use this recipe include incorporating my infused olive oil into salad dressings, aiolis, and chimichurri sauce.

2 Cups of cooking oil
Up to 1/4 oz. high grade bud, or 1 oz mid-grade, or 1 gram of hash/kief.
(Note: Use half or quarter quantities of cannabis material if you prefer a lower strength product.)
16 oz. Glass bottle
(Warning: Cannabis is illegal under federal law and therefore this recipe is for entertainment purposes only and should not be made by anyone. May cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after consuming.)
Prep time: 5 min
Cooking time: 20 mins
Ready in: 1 hour
Yield: 2 Cups
Pour the oil into a medium-size pot and place it over medium-low heat for 3 minutes.
Add the cannabis material of your choice (NOT all three) and simmer it in the oil for about 20 minutes. Do not let the oil get above 175 degrees.
Allow the oil to cool. Place a funnel into a 16 oz. glass bottle and place a strainer over the funnel. (The strainer is only necessary if you used bud, trim, or any other form of green leaf material. You may omit the strainer if you used hash or kief.)
Pour the oil through the strainer, into the funnel, and down into the glass bottle. Store in a cool, dark place.
