How to Make a Cannabis Infused Tincture
Updated: Feb 28

Tinctures are essentially alcohol that's been infused with cannabis. Most people who use tinctures ingest them sublingual by placing a few drops underneath their tongue; but you can incorporate them into beverages & cocktails too.
Prior to the beginning of cannabis prohibition in 1937, tinctures were widely used in western medicine as a sedatives and astringents. These days tinctures make for the perfect discreet delivery device because they're odorless, low-profile, and easy to transport. And here's the best part...
They're incredibly simple to make!
All you need are some basic household items, some cannabis material, high-proof spirits, and time. I prefer using kief as the cannabis material because it dissolves easier than hash and there's no need to strain out any plant material at the end of the process; but whole buds, shake, trim, and fine-grade hash will all work too.
You definitely want to choose a high-proof alcohol for this recipe. I like using White Dog Mash by Buffalo Trace because the slight sweetness from the corn helps to balance out the bitterness of the leaf material.
Yes, I know that White Dog Mash is 'store-bought' moonshine and that real moonshine always comes out of a glass mason jar, but I live in Northern California so my access to the real thing is limited
However, if you do have access to the real thing... go ahead and use it.
Everclear works well too.

Yield: 750 ml of cannabis tincture
Step #1
Weight out the appropriate amount of cannabis material and place it in the 32 oz mason jar.
Step #2
Add the alcohol to the mason jar, being sure to completely cover the cannabis material while still leaving an inch or two of room at the top.
Step #3
Seal the jar and shake well.
Step #4
Place the jar in a cool dark place and leave untouched for 30 days.
Step #5
Use the funnel to transfer the tincture into the small 2 oz. eye dropper bottles and label the bottle accordingly. Use the strainer if you need to filter out the plant material.
